MANIFESTO

SCALLYWAG MOSH PIT is a SAFE SPACE for children, that will allow the kids to EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE and CREATE.

SCALLYWAG MOSH PIT is an inclusive and equitant COMMUNITY that hosts events, supports HOME LEARNING and organises ACTIVITIES to encourage children to SHARE SKILLS and LEARN from each other. It’s equally about growing CONFIDENCE and growing BONDS between the scallywags, parents, teachers and our community.

What is Scallywag Mosh Pit ?

SCALLYWAG MOSH PIT started as an alternative to the 'no children allowed' of many, if not all etablisments playing life music, pubs, and even cafes after 7pm. It was an attempt to turn around the slogan to 'parents allowed if accompanied by a kid' and to break the isolation of young parents. We wanted to create a safe space for children, AND parents to mingle and make friends, and we were surprised how this project gained momentum.

We have been shielding, locked down, and we are now back, with tons of new ideas:

The Scallywags have been very busy learning at home and we created together MANY INFO AND WORK SHEETS for reception up to year 5.

We have been sharing them in our WhatsApp group but very soon we will be able to share all of these sheets on our SCALLYWAG MOSH PIT website!

And there are even more GREAT NEWS!

At the beginning of lockdown, we started a Swap Shop, which was at first sitting in a small alleyy, but then moved to its permanent place on the premises of the Chandos Community Centre. And it's proved to be very popular in the community - and beyond!!! Read moreabout it in our SCALLYWAG MOSH PIT BLOG!!! We keep you updated!

My big scallywag has started a FOOD SAVE INITIATIVE at her school (federation) and the kids are investigating food waste, behaviours and habits leading to food being wasted, and ideas how to save food! Read moreabout it in our SCALLYWAG MOSH PIT BLOG!!! We keep you updated!

There will be more ACTIVITIES IN THE PIT a SCALLYWAG BOOK LIBRARY and a DELICIOUS SURPRISE waiting for you, too!

Our Story

Get to Know Us

On the 17th of April 2016, the first Scallywag Mosh Pit took place at the Stag's Head in Hoxton. Together with SES/ DIY Gigs London, Anti-Folk UK, Hunga Munga, VickelArt and loads of amazing big and small kids we had an amazing time full of jamming, crafting, munching and then jamming, crafting and munching again.

We went outdoors, we went poetical with an Eisteddfod, we learnt more moves and grooves, we got all adventurous with Pippi, we did some serious djing, and we welcomed a special guest from Kackalacky.

During lockdown, we explored gardening and discovered how much fun exploring and experimenting is, and learnt a lot.

Our world is getting bigger, and we understand more of what is happening, and we are finding solutions: children are the future! Scallywags keep going strong!

Now is the time to step out and share, and get active! Join us, and be part of the solution!

Instead of limiting children to our perceptions, we need them to grow strong and independent to find their own ways. Children are our future!
